My Thoughts on my thoughts

So after going back through my blogs, I've concluded one thing. My THOUGHTS ARE ALL OVER THE PLACE!!!!!!!!

I think there are several reasons why.
The first and probably the biggest one is that I had a crazy schedule this semester.
I planned to do a blog on Glenn Beck, because I think the show is crazy fun, creative, and provides a different perpective then any other anchor, commentator, etc.
But for whatever reason my work schedule became this inconsistent thing and I found I was missing more episodes then I liked.

So then I started looking for other ways to still keep up with this blog.
Well I found his blog, his website, and I heard his radio program. And while I had talking points now, I still wasnt keeping up with the blog. (Again due to time) So then I just started the different sheets of notes I'd been taking on the different mediums but then another problem occured. The notes werent in order. So as I was creating the blog I was going through notes that weren't in order.

....I think all I can say at this point is this is why I don't keep a blog!!! Its definitely too time consuming. And hontestly my thoughts and critique of what Glenn Beck does or doesn't do.... really aren't for other people. They're just for my to rant..... and I can do that orally!

My Thoughts on Eric Massa

Ok so I'm sure by now you know where I stand when it comes to things effecting this country.
I'm very pro defense, and pro less government.
So it was very interesting to hear Eric Massa's rant about how the Democratic party was trying to get him thrown out of office because he didn't vote with the health care bill. (As left as he leans it was kinda a shocker) Then I was even more shocked to learn the congressman would be going on Glenn;s show to give his side of the story.

It was interesting for several reasons. 1) The Glenn Beck program isn't really a show for people to do interviews, and for Beck to listen to another side. 2)The program is really just a soap box really for whatever his talking points may be, whether its airing out information on Van Jones, or explaining how the progressive movement works.

He started the show off by saying pretty much those things. The show wasn't meant for interviews. He also stated that he was skeptical of doing the interview because he didn't really know what Massa was going to talk about and (in my opinion) he just didn't care.
So the interview was off. And after Massa started talking it became very obvious that Glenn Beck was clearly annoyed. From the audience perspective I know I wasnt to interested in what the congressman was saying. In fact, I felt his being on the show was just making a mockery of the whole situation he had gotten himself into with his aides.

After the hour eneded, Glenn Beck apologized to his audience for wasting thier time.
....And I must say that was the actually only interesting part. I say that because with all the programs I've watched and listend this was the first program where the host felt he had wastedthe audience's time and I don't know how many times I thought the segment was stupid and pointless. (O'Reilly and his culture warriors for starters.)

What I know About Glenn Beck

So I was going back through my blog and I realized that I never gave background information on Glenn Beck.

Well I'm not going to be the next biographer of Glenn Beck. I don't know when he was born, what his family life was like, if he went to school, the name of his wife or children.

But I've watched enough of his shows and read a couple of his books and I think the information I can take from those sources is this.

Glenn Beck is a recovered Alcoholic. There was no real "saw the light" moment. (Or at least not that I've read) I think what it was ultimately that made him do a 180 of his life was his faith.

Once he started tackling the overhaul of his life I think he used that has kind of his jumping point for his career. (Again I don't know for sure) I think he using his own "aha moment" and turn it to how the country needs to start looking at its "aha moments:"

During this time he was working at CNN. He also had written a book, and had a radio program. After the 2008 presidential election he moved to the Fox News Channel. And with no time at all he became a very bright star in the conservative movement.

The Glenn Beck program ares Monday through Friday at 5pm.
A lot of people think his show is nothing but theatrics. Honestly I think the reason behind why his show is so successful is because of the theatrics. I think that if you watch a couple of his shows you can see theatrics but throughout the theatrics I think (again personal opinion) that you can get a true feel for the passion he has when it comes to what he reports.

My Thoughts on Best of Beck Clip

So I had another idea on how to keep up with my blog. I decided that it would be interesting to blog about the unfairness Glenn Beck gets in the eyes of the media. I just recently finished a paper regarding media bias and I think it was while doing this paper that the idea came to me to. So I went onto youtube to see if every day people like Glenn or despise Glenn. (If people are positive videos then he must be doing something right. If there are a lot of videos that make fun of him then they don't like him. And they wouldn't like him based on what they hear from the media.)

Surprise surprise when I typed in Glenn Beck a series of negative videos were the first to pop up. It wasn't until I started typing in more key words other then just Glenn Beck I could find positive videos or even neutral videos (uh video clips from his shows, or interviews hes had)

Its very interesting what people can put together.

Chicken Pancackes for Everyone

Facing the dilemma of not being able to watch Glenn Beck episodes because of my very hectic schedule. And when I was able to find a few hours away from either work, school or driving, I went onto Glenn Beck's web site to see if there was a link to see episodes from his show.

Well I didn't find any links to see old shows but I did notice a link for blogs.
The name of the blog is called Stu Blog.
This got me thinking maybe I could keep up with my blog by reading his blog.

Honestly I have no idea what the meaning behind Stublog is, but it seems kinda interesting. The tagline is the most poorly name blog on the internet. But its definitely catchy.

After reading several entries, I'm not sure who is actually keeping this blog.

In some entries, it seems as the person talking might be Glenn. But then in other entries, it seems like someone who works with Glenn is actually maintaining it for him.

Eh well maybe the blogs are another outlet to examine.

8/28 Restoring Honor Rally

On a trip back from Norfolk, my mom and I were talking about Glenn Beck and she was going over episodes I've missed (because I'm always driving or and am in work)and she mentioned that he was going to be hosting a rally on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial at the end of August. She asked if I was interested in going since I had missed his CPAC speech. I asked her what the rally was for and if it had anything to do with the with the recent party movements she said she wasn't sure. So I went to Glenn Beck's website to see if there is any mention of it.

http://www.glennbeck.com/828/
This is the website devoted to the rally.
Apparently the rally is partnered up with Special Operations Warrior Foundation. It actually seems like a good event to participate in. Glenn Beck think its time to honor our soldiers. He claims on the website that this rally is going to be a non-political, non-partisan rally just to honor the troops.

I think something like this is a great thing to do. It honors the troops who fight for this country. I think it'll be a great chance to really honor the troops.

I'm kinda of interested in attending. Especially if this rally isnt policial (Because honestly I'm just tired of it all)

CPAC Comment

I love CPAC (otherwise known as Conservative Political Action Committee). I've gone to several different cpacs over the years. I was even planning to go this year, but I wasn't about to cancel my sweet deal of $69 a night in Time Square New York.

But I was particularly interested in this year's CPAC, because Glenn Beck was to be the keynote speaker. And since I think Glenn Beck doesn't just regurgitate the same talking points that most other commentators talk about.
So when the the convention was over I downloaded his speech, and started reading.
Sadly I think I was a little disappointed though.

Anyone who knows anything about Glenn Beck knows he's a recovered alcoholic, and that has been his main selling point over the past years. You would also know that another claim to fame is his research into the progressive movement.

When it came time to giving the CPAC speech, Glenn Beck started off well with a couple jokes, got the crowd going, and then started to focus on how the progressive movement is the cancer of this country and the constitution. I'm fine with that. But after a while I had to stop reading because I felt he was trying to hard to put blame on one side or another.
Generally Glenn Beck does his research for his talking points, and he doesnt blame.
But this speech I felt had too much blame, with no research, and he was just reieterating his recovering alcohol story and what progressives have done to the country.

Why

So I chose to focus on Glenn Beck because I love his style.
Glenn Beck while he tries not to ever label himself a republican or conservative, he does battle for the side more often then not.
Actually hes not even battle for the right side. Hes battling for the better good of the country.
He truly believes in what the founding fathers stood for and what this country means.
And because I love this country so much it is very easy to see where he is coming from.

And when he does his programs, hes not just bringing the talking points that everyone else is using. Health care (while he has talked about it) isnt what hes talking about now or even the past 3 weeks.
He talks about things going on around the world what America needs to do to stay above water in relation to these other countries.

And he doesn't spout the talking points because he disagrees.
He does his research and he does it well.
He has unearthed so much information that never would be available to the public because its seen as too bad to report on.

Yes hes theatrical but you can tell the he believes in everything he says from the bottom of his heart.
Its very refreshing to have someone believe in something that much when it comes to things going on in this country.

trouble of blogging part 2

So now that my reasons for not keeping up with a blog are open for everyone to see. I'll continue on my main blog topic.
Now I have been following him the best that I can when ever I have free time.

He has an am radio program from 9-12 Monday through Friday.
Also Monday through Friday he has a television show on fox news at 5pm.
Then a recap of the week Saturday nights at 9pm
Then if you aren't able to view the television show, the same program is aired on sirius radio station 146 (I think) at 8pm.

So because of my work I'm not really able to watch his programs.
I have however recorded his shows for about the past 3 weeks. And when I finally get a full day off (Spring break is looking really good to me even though I'll have to work, there will be one full day I won't have to do anything!) I'll be able to watch all the episodes and really get cracking.

Now his radio programs are a little better for me to at least listen to.
Tuesdays and Thursdays I get on the road at 7am to make it to my 11 am class in Norfolk.
Right around the time I get to 64 E. his program is starting. So I can get at least an hour there.
Then at night since I'm leaving campus at 7pm I'm guaranteed another hour there.
The only trouble with either of these time periods is that I'm driving and can't really write my thoughts down to get them on the blog.

So it would really be easier for me when I get my full day off to just kinda start from scratch.
Because if I go back through my memory now I'll be combining multiple programs into one.. and they won't fit because I'll only know parts of what was being talked about.
So have to come back next week.

My Blog

So I've sorta been slacking on keeping up with my blog.
While I've never been one to really air whats going on in my life on any cyber source (facebook, blogs, etc) and I'm sure that my lack of desire to really keep a blog doesnt help, the main reason is because I have just been so busy.
Other then knowing that I have to work, go to classes and drive to school I never know what else is going on in my life.
My work schedule is so inconsistent (something that is very irritating especially since I am one of the most senior members at the hotel.) I can't even nail down a date and time for a dr. appointment. Infact I've had to reschedule 3 different sets of visits 6 times each over the last 3 months. One would think that if I spend most of my time at work then I could just keep up with this blog while I'm there. Wrong! Can't access the website while I'm on Westin property.
So there is at least 40 hours through out the week that I can't keep up with a blog.
Another 12 hours is spent during a week (only to and from school... not counting time spent to and from work) driving back and forth to norfolk for classes. Classes are are another 12 hours.
So I'm up to 64 hours gone right there. The rest of the time during a week is split up among misc. events like homework, taking care of animal appointments, chauffering my mother, etc etc.
I don't even have time to even socialize and relax .

Very frustrating.

Glenn Beck

The show that I'm going to follow is Glenn Beck.
His show is on Fox at 5-6pm Monday through Friday.
http://www.glennbeck.com/ This is the link for his program.
http://www.foxnews.com/ This is the link that his show falls under.

I'd like to critique him and go into how I feel since political science is my minor. And I think that a lot is happening within our government right now and we all should be aware of.
